Sage
Yarrow (Achillea Mille Folium)
​

Achillea Mille Folium or Yarrow is a flowering perennial in the family Asteraceae, common in North America but also native to Europe and Asia.  Yarrow is an herb. The above ground parts are used to make health remedies for ailments such as the common cold, hay fever, dysentery, diarrhea, loss of appetite, fever, gastrointestinal  tract discomfort, loss of menstruation and to induce sweating. Active growth occurs in the spring with the plant commonly flowering from May through June.
 

Sage (Salvia Officinalis)

 

Salvia Officinalis, also known as sage, is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae and native to the Mediterranean region, though it has been naturalized in many places throughout the world.

​

Sage is an herb high in antioxidants. Sage has a long history of use as a spice and for health purposes.  It can be consumed fresh, dried or as a tea. Long ago it was used as a traditional herbal remedy Europe, as well as in Native American and Chinese medicine. Tea brewed from its leaves was thought to strengthen the memory and promote wisdom. Positive health benefits today include aiding in brain function and lowering blood sugar and cholesterol levels, aiding in memory loss, treating sore mouth or throat and other conditions.

Sage contains vitamins A and C, along with several other antioxidants which help reduce the risk of serious health conditions like cancer. It's also rich in vitamin K, which aids the body in clotting blood. Since sage is usually taken in small amounts, it provides a high amount of nutrition without a lot of calories.

Mullein (Verbascum Thapsus L.)
​

Mullein, is a genus of over 450 species of flowering plants, common name Mullein, in the figwort family Scrophulariaceae. They are native to Europe and Asia, with the highest species diversity in the Mediterranean.

​

Although scientific research to support these and other uses is limited, Mullein is a supreme, safe, and profound respiratory tonic. Common Mullein (Verbascum Thapsus L.) is a plant used to make medicine and has been used to treat conditions such as pulmonary problems, inflammatory diseases, spasmodic coughs, migraines, breathing conditions like asthma, sore throat, pneumonia, colds and diarrhea.

The whole plant possesses slightly sedative and narcotic properties. The seeds are mostly used as a narcotic and also contain saponins. The dried leaves are sometimes smoked to relieve the irritation of the respiratory mucus membranes, and for hacking coughs.  Brewing a tea from this plant is the most common use, primarily due to the amount of mucilage present in the leaves, which creates a coating on the throat.

Elderberry (Sambucus)

 

Sambucus, also known as Ederberry, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae. The various species are commonly called elder or elderberry.  There are about 30 types of elder plants and trees around the world. The European version (also known as Sambucus nigra) is the one most closely tied to your health and healing.

​

supporters of elderberry say the fruit is one of nature’s most versatile solutions for some medical issues. In folk medicine today, the elderberry is considered one of the world’s most healing plants.

​

Elderberry contains  antioxidant, and many believe the compound that makes it blue lowers inflammation, help to relieve colds, fight the flu, and boost the immune system. Its antioxidants and vitamins may in addition boost immune systems that may aid in reducing inflammation, lessening stress, and helping to protect your heart. Some preliminary research suggests that elderberry may relieve symptoms of flu or other upper respiratory infections.

Elderberry fruit contains high levels of flavonoids, which means it might have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that helps to protect healthy cells from harmful free radicals that play a role in skin problems such as acne.

Jackass Bitters (Neurolaena Lobata)

 

Neurolaena Lobata, known commonly as Jackass Bitters, has numerous ethnomedicinal uses. In Mesoamerica, the herb was used to treat several diseases, including cancer, diabetes, dysentery (amebiasis), and malaria. In Panama, an infusion of the leaves was used to treat diabetes, hypertension, and hepatic ailments. In Caribbean folk medicine, the herb was used medicinally to treat skin diseases, gastric pain, ulcers, and as a general pain reliever. In Guatemala, the plant has been used to treat malaria, anemia, and nervous weakness. It also has been used as a tonic and an antipyretic.

Leaf Of Life (Bryophyllum Pinnatum)

 

Bryophyllum Pinnatum, also known as Leaf Of Liofe is native to Madagascar but is grown in most tropical areas including Jamaica where it is widely used as a herbal remedy to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma, colds, coughs, shortness of breath and bronchitis,  infections, bowel diseases, healing wounds. It is usually consumed as tea, blended in juices or eaten raw.  It further supports its therapeutic potential for the treatment of urinary calculi and known to have antibacterial, antifungal and antihistamine properties. The crushed leaves of this miracle leaf bring relief to insect bites, bruises and relieve pain and anxiety disorders.

Noni (Morinda Citrifolia)

​

Noni or Indian Mulberry or scientifically Morinda Citrifolia, is believed to have originated in the Southeast Asia or the French Polynesian islands some 2000-3000 years ago. It is a fruit-bearing tree in the coffee family, Rubiaceae. Its native range extends across Southeast Asia and Australasia and is known as a plant needed to survive and flourish.  The species is now cultivated throughout the tropics and widely naturalized. Among some 100 names for the fruit across different regions are the more common English names of great Morinda, Indian Mulberry, Noni, Beach Mulberry, and Cheese Fruit. Ancient societies turned to noni and other plants for many of their needs, ranging from the mundane to the life-sustaining to the spiritual.

Prunella (Prunella Vulgaris)

 

Prunella Vulgaris is a medicinal herb that has been used for centuries to treat infections and other illnesses. It is a member of the mint family with large green leaves and purple flowers. Prunella Vulgaris grows all over the world and is helpful in fighting inflammation and protecting against cancer.  It is known as “heal-all” due to its traditional use in healing wounds, throat infections, disorders of women’s reproductive systems, as well as for wounds and bruises and several other ailments. Referred to as Self Heal, Prunella Vulgaris supports varicose veins both as a lymphatic stimulant and a diuretic.

​
